Generally

What is the rust scarer?

Rokitta's RUST-BE-GONE is like a hero who stands up for your good cutlery. It removes the rust so that it does not settle on your cutlery, in pots or pans. All you have to do is put the RUST-BE-GONEt in the cutlery basket or cutlery drawer. It is also useful in the cutlery drawer to prevent unsightly rust stains - especially in areas with high humidity or salty air.

Which cutlery gets rust in the dishwasher?

Rust can quickly make cutlery look old and unkempt. Rust can also form on stainless steel cutlery. Stainless steel cutlery is usually made of 18/10 steel. That is 18 parts chrome and 10 parts nickel, the rest is steel. (Depending on the manufacturer and price, there are differences in quality here too.) The nickel part is omitted from knives so that the knives are hard and cannot bend. However, as soon as the nickel is missing, the cutlery parts without nickel become magnetic and thus attract the rust particles. This is how the rust gets onto the knives. With slightly cheaper cutlery, nickel is often saved on the other cutlery parts and so these parts also rust. The problem can often be metal water pipes. Here, rust gets into the dishwasher via the water. To prevent this, the RUST-BE-GONE acts like a small vacuum cleaner and attracts the rust and binds it to itself.

Can you just put a piece of aluminum foil in the dishwasher to achieve the same effect?

Of course you can also use aluminum foil. But that has a few disadvantages.

The aluminum foil dissolves in the machine. Small pieces are pushed into the spray arms by the pump and clog the small water jets. This requires repairs.

Furthermore, you have to change the foil after each wash cycle, which is not cheaper in the long run.

It should also be noted that only particles that are in direct contact with the aluminum foil are bound.

Rokitta's RUST-BE-GONE is also made of aluminum, but in one complete piece. It also has a neodymium magnet built in that attracts the rust. This means that rust particles from the furthest corner of the dishwasher are also attracted.

How dangerous is rust in the dishwasher?

Rust is iron oxide. Rust is visually disturbing, but it is not harmful to health. Over time, cutlery can be damaged by rust (small black holes on the cutlery)

Can the rust repellent magnet damage the dishwasher?

The magnet does not damage the electronics of a dishwasher.

Handling

I don't have a cutlery basket, but a dishwasher with a cutlery drawer. Does that work the same?

Yes, the RUST-BE-GONE works equally well in the cutlery drawer and the cutlery basket.

Can the rust remover be used with chemicals such as cleaning tablets?

The RUST-BE-GONE can be used as normal with cleaning tablets and rinse aid. However, you may need to use less cleaner and rinse aid because the RUST-BE-GONE multiplies the effect.

Does the RUST-BE-GONE help if there is already rust or just as a preventative measure?

No, the rust must be removed before using the rust remover. You can use Rokitta's stainless steel cleaner for this.

Is a rust remover in the dishwasher enough?

A rust remover in the dishwasher is sufficient to prevent rust. It is best placed in the cutlery basket or in the cutlery drawer next to the knives. Due to the metal composition (18/0 or lower), knives are more susceptible to rust than other cutlery items.

The rust remover tarnishes after a while and becomes brittle and milky, is this normal?

Yes, that is completely normal, the rust deterrent is a sacrificial anode. It attracts the rust spots and binds them to itself. You can then see this on the rust deterrent. It continues to work very well and only needs to be replaced when its function deteriorates.

Up to which machine temperature is the rust deterrent approved

The rust deterrent is approved and suitable for any temperature in the dishwasher.

Do I have to keep a distance of 5 - 10 cm?

Place the rust deterrent in a compartment/basket, without a knife, in the cutlery basket/cutlery compartment. Then it will work perfectly. Other pieces of cutlery can also be placed/put in the rust deterrent.

cleaning

Do you have to clean the rust deterrent rod?

No, the rust deterrent rod does not need to be cleaned and cannot be cleaned. It is a consumable item.

Can the rust repellent be reactivated by sanding the surface?

The rust repellent has a specific duration of action/application time. If it is sanded down, this time is reduced.

How do you clean the rust remover?

The rust deterrent does not need to be cleaned. When it is used up, it is disposed of.

exchange / disposal

For how many applications is the rust repellent suitable?

How long the rust deterrent can be used depends on various factors. Depending on the water hardness, rust content in the water, number of rinses or what items are put in the machine - the rust deterrent has a different shelf life. It is important to check whether the rust deterrent looks worn or whether the rust is coming back; in this case it must be replaced.

Doesn't the rust deterrent last forever because of the aluminum?

No, the rust deterrent is a sacrificial anode. It attracts particles and binds them to itself. As soon as the effect wears off and rust appears on the blades again, the rust deterrent should be replaced.

How can you tell when the rust repellent is used up?

Please replace the rust remover when it no longer absorbs particles and is encrusted. Furthermore, the rust particles will then return to the cutlery.

The cutlery has rust again and the rust remover has oxidized?

Then the rust deterrent is used up and no longer has any effect. Simply buy a new one.

How do you dispose of the rust scarer?

The rust deterrent is made of metal and can therefore be put in the yellow bin/bag or disposed of with household waste.
